WHERE IT ALL BEGAN:
THE HISTORY OF FNAQ
"We, as a people need to understand our history, in order to deal with the present and chart our course for the future." - Dr. Jose Rizal, our Philippine national hero
"We never forget the people who nurtured us to become who we are today: our elders, teachers, superiors, colleagues, friends. We never forget the workplaces where we spent the best years of our lives and which became our home away from home." - Mrs. M. Calcetas, FNAQ Founder

1950's - The first Filipino nurse was registered in the OIIQ, and worked at Sta. Cabrini General Hospital.
This period saw health care professionals, mostly University graduates, arrived via the USA, after completing post graduate courses under the Foreign Exchange Program (FEVP).
1960's -Increasing frequency of Filipino Head Nurses, Supervisors, and Directors of Nursing in most English Hospitals.
1970's - More University educated Filipino nurses arrived in Montreal via Europe, Asia, USA.
1972 - Schools of Nursing in Quebec hospitals graduated their last classes & moved the education of nurses to CEGEPS.
1980's - Interesting times, the intermingling of the "old and the new". Filipino nurses aided in the clinical & professional integration of the first CEGEP graduates. Those pioneers of 4 decades held positions as: clinical specialists, educators, headnurses and coordinators. Many of them would be the core & the founding executive board of FNAQ.
1986 - The start of downsizing & restructuring in hospitals. Many positions of senior middle management became obsolete & threatened with demotions, negative situations, or relieved of their positions. However, some managed to get better jobs elsewhere, or went back to University, as positive outcomes.
1992 - The FNAQ was founded, in consultation with and blessings of the OIIQ. It was conceived to serve as a legal constituted body, to protect the rights and promote the well-being of its members. The 18 Founding Executive Board members were inducted to office by Mr. David Paulhus, President of CIIRM (now (ORIIM/L). FNAQ updates the OIIQ on all its activities and goals. It is incorporated under the Quebec's Company's act No. 023 L01.
2007 - Due to a popular request from the nursing community, FNAQ opened its membership to non-Filipinos who shares our vision, mission, values, goals.
Twenty one years afforded FNAQ with continued growth in its professional, civic, multicultural, artistic & religious role in the community. It holds regular reviews, evaluations, training, seminars enjoys the support of its members, the community and advisors.
